How to Improve your Riding with Equicube: a Training Aid

    The Equicube

Have you ever struggled to achieve balance and proper posture in your riding? I did too, until I tried the Equicube. Getting back in the saddle has been a journey of relearning, both mentally and physically. So much depends upon a rider’s core strength. The muscle memory I took for granted as a younger rider was not where I needed it to be. After several lessons with my hands out of position and my body out of balance, my trainer introduced me to Equicube. Right away, everything just clicked! In this post, I’ll share how to improve your riding with Equicube.

How to Improve Your Riding with Equicube

So, what exactly is the Equicube? It’s basically a weighted riding aid that helps you to maintain the proper riding position. When my trainer first handed it to me, I have to admit, I was a bit puzzled. It looks like a rubber cube with handles and weighs just under 5 pounds. To position the Equicube, you grip the handles on the sides of the cube, while holding your reins as usual. The cube should sit on top of the reins.

    The Equicube

It took me a minute to figure out how to hold it correctly, but once I did, it made complete sense. Holding the Equicube in front of me while riding, I could feel my core muscles become engaged in order to support the weight of the cube. Engaging the core muscles is what helps to create better balance and posture. With that immediate connection between my body and the reins, I was able to focus on maintaining proper posture.

The Equicube teaches you to sit up straight, bring your shoulders back, and relax your upper arms. Instead of constantly thinking about how to position your seat, shoulders, and legs, you can feel when you are in the correct position right away. I noticed a much better sense of collection and of connection with the horse.

    Improved Understanding and Feel

The Equicube also helps to build important muscle memory for the correct position and the feel of your ride. By keeping the cube level on the line I wanted my horse to travel, I could feel my core and rein aids working together. This allowed me to focus on feeling my shoulders, seat, and leg, instead of thinking about how to coordinate them. I like to think of it as getting out of my head and into my body.

This enhanced understanding and feel are invaluable when it comes to fine-tuning your riding. I noticed that once my upper body was in the right alignment, I became much more effective with with leg cues as well. As you continue to use the Equicube, you’ll notice significant improvements in your riding skills and overall success in the saddle.

    For Riders of All Levels

One of the best aspects of the Equicube is its versatility. Whether you’re a novice rider or an experienced equestrian, this riding aid can benefit riders of all levels and in any discipline. It adapts to your skill level, making it a valuable addition to your training regimen, regardless of your riding goals.

    Conclusion

In conclusion, the Equicube has become an essential tool in my journey to become a better rider. It has helped me to achieve a more harmonious connection with my equine partner and a greater sense of confidence in the saddle. If you’re looking to enhance your riding experience and take your skills to the next level, the Equicube can make a real difference.
